Obtaining iGo 8 and iGo Primo 1.2 Software & Maps

Verified working versions of iGo8 and iGo Primo 1.2 on the D5102, including maps, can be obtained through the www.MobilePassion.org or www.ipmart-forum.com forums.

Verified working versions of iGo software:
- iGO primoâ„¢ v1.2 (9.2.1.179499)
- Nav N Go iGo 8 v8.3.2.151813

Installation

Installation of iGo 8 and iGo Primo 1.2 on the D5102 simply consists of copying the software over to the GPS SD card and launching the executable for the software. You will need to tell the D5102 the location of the new software through the "Navi Path" option.

iGo 8

Pros and Cons of iGo 8

Pros:
- Easy and neat looking customizable interface
- Very simple setup
- Very stable on the D5102

Cons:
- Long delay for music to return after each voice guidance speech
- Large amount of volume lag when adjusting volume with the map being displayed
- Large amount of lag when changing map setting while the map is being displayed (ex. adjusting tilt or zoom level)
- No extra color schemes for the maps

iGo8 Sys.txt Initalization

Both iGo8 and iGo Primo have initialization parameters for fine tuning the software on each various unit the software runs on. These parameters are found in the root directory of the software located in the sys.txt file.

For iGo8, the following contents should be located in the sys.txt file for the D5102. These can always be modified for even more fine tuning of the software, but these parameters seem to work best:

[interface]
skin="ui_igo8"
resolution_dir="800_480"
vga=0
maxzoom2d=6000000
show_exit=1
laneinfo_signpost_enabled=1

Customization

Extra skins, schemes, and vehicles for iGo 8 can be found at www.igo8mods.com/dimka.htm.

Skins are to be placed in the "/content/skin/" directory.

I have not tried this myself but apparently you can increase the Text to Speech volume by almost 50%.

iGo Primo v1.2

Pros and Cons of iGo Primo

Pros:
- Even simpler interface than iGo 8
- Less volume lag when map is being displayed
- Almost no music delay after voice guidance speech
- Different schemes for daytime and nighttime maps

Cons:
- Interface doesn't allow for easy background customization
- Annoying click noise after each button press on the touch screen that temporarily cuts out music (fix below)
- About the same startup time as iGo 8 (maybe a little faster)

iGo Primo sys.txt Initalization

Not much experimentation has been done with the sys.txt for iGo Primo. However what has been found that needs to be in the sys.txt file is the [interface] section directing the software to the 800 x 480 resolution directory.

What seems to be the best tuning of the software so far is displayed below:

[Interface]

resolution_dir="800_480"
vga=0

[sound]
csv_voice_enabled=1

[map]
2dheadup=1
3d_landmarks=1
3d_buildings=3
3d_buildings_distance=20000
3d_dem=1
3d_dem_detail=3
3d_roads=1
3d_tunnels=1

[sound]
sound_q_length=200
queue_length=200
ding=1

Button-Click Noise Fix

One of the cons mentioned above about the iGo Primo software is the inability to turn off button click noises when selecting options on menus and entering address or points of interests (POI). To fix this problem, an edited version of the data.zip file found in the root directiory of the iGo Primo software has been made that edits out the .wav files responsible for the noises. This file can be downloaded here.

How to install the edited data.zip file:
1. Download the data.zip file to somewhere you can find it on your computer.
2. On your SD card, go to the root directory of the iGo Primo software.
3. Rename the data.zip file that is already there to "dataBKP.zip'.
4. Go to the location of the dataNOCLICK.zip file you just downloaded, and rename the file back to "data.zip"
5. Copy and past the file back over to the root directory of the iGo Primo software on your SD card where the original data.zip file was located.
6. Eject your SD card, reinsert it back into your D5102 head unit and boot iGo Primo.

Other Information

iGo Primo also features a media player built into the software. More research is being done, however a skin has been found that adds an equalizer option to the software, an option that is unfortunately missing from the D5102. The media player also can only play music added to the GPS SD card, however research is also being done on a way to possibly route the music from the media SD card instead.
